Yesterday Georgian Bay General Hospital received a special delivery with a blue bow! Our team has designed a two-story expansion at the Midland hospital to accommodate their first MRI.
Cumulus is currently working on an addition that will house the new MRI suite. Situated on the second level of the addition, this suite has been carefully designed to accept the weight and accommodate the strict shielding requirements of the MRI. Developing a strong, successful MRI program locally will cut down on travel and wait times for MRI services in the Simcoe and Muskoka region.
The expansion is located off the Main Level which is elevated above the ground floor. The two story addition adds a dedicated MRI suite on the main floor and 2,000 sf of new administrative space below. The MRI is scheduled to be operational later this spring.
About Georgian Bay General Hospital
Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) is a 113-bed medium-size, partial French Language designated acute care hospital, providing local services focused on residents of North Simcoe, as well as regional programs supporting residents of the broader Simcoe and Muskoka region.
GBGH is unique in that it serves a community of permanent and seasonal residents, while also supporting the acute care needs of both Waypoint Mental Health Facility (Waypoint) and the Central North Correctional Centre (CNCC). In addition to serving the current collective needs of North Simcoe, the region will also benefit from having MRI services in anticipation of future needs, given a projected population growth of 43.6% by 2046.
