Studio Six5 Heward Avenue

Cumulus transformed a former industrial site into a dynamic creative hub in Toronto’s vibrant Studio District, just east of downtown.

Once a manufacturing facility, this building has been reimagined as a dynamic workspace for creative industries. Cumulus was engaged to modernize the building, upgrading systems while preserving its industrial character. The redesign highlights the building’s legacy—uncovering and restoring original brick walls and exposing the heavy timber structural elements.

To maximize leasable space, a new steel framework expands the second floor by 5,000 sq. ft. Rather than concealing the structural elements, they have been intentionally left exposed, contributing to a raw yet inviting aesthetic that blends with the renewed timber and brick elements.

Innovative base-building amenities were introduced, including shared unisex washrooms and showers, improving accessibility while optimizing space. Extensive bike parking and rooftop patio further enhance tenant experience.

A reimagined entrance serves as a bold statement, aligning with the building’s branding and positioning it as the first phase of a larger Studio District campus. This master planned site will support production, post-production, and creative professionals in a flexible, full-service environment.

A striking new feature stair brightens the atrium, while modern LED lighting adds warmth throughout.
Located just off the Lakeshore Trail, the office supports active commuting with showers and lockers. Introducing unisex washrooms made space for these amenities, enhancing functionality without expanding the footprint.

The staircase divides smaller ground level units with the full floor second level unit, allowing for maximum light and shares amenities.
