Operation Grow
Agency and empowerment through vertical farming

Shaped by the voices of women seeking recovery from intimate partner violence through support provided by Huronia Transition Homes, Operation Grow was created to provide employable skills, confidence, food security, and hope for a brighter future. Cumulus partnered with the non-profit to transform a former LCBO in Midland into a social enterprise designed to break cycles of control, isolation, and trauma.
At the core of Operation Grow is a state-of-the-art indoor vertical farm, utilizing cutting-edge hydroponic technology to grow pesticide-free, non-GMO produce in a strictly controlled environment. Supplemented by a commercial kitchen and in-store retail market, the enterprise supplies fresh produce to local restaurants and the community, fostering economic sustainability.
Clients gain employment readiness while building supportive relationships by working in the vertical farm, developing culinary skills in the commercial kitchen, and supporting the retail space. Empowerment and healing are further enhanced by access to yoga and meditation programming, as well as skill-building workshops—helping women regain independence, confidence, and a path forward.
