Research Facilities for SickKids
Designing for Canada’s evolving biotechnology landscape

Investments in highly specialized research infrastructure like the Axolotl Lab and Titan Krios Transmission Electron Microscope Facility help secure SickKids as a centre of excellence for pediatric care and research in Canada and across the globe.

The Titan Krio TEM is an example of how academic partnerships, like the SickKids Research Institute, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and University of Toronto, can come together to address the demand for advanced technological equipment that attracts the brightest and best to Toronto’s research and innovation district, supporting clinicians, researchers and inspiring the next generation of biomedical innovators.

The axolotl facility will be used for housing, breeding, and performing procedures such as surgery, electroporation and injection. Axolotls are a species of aquatic salamander capable of regenerating their organs and tissues throughout their lifespan.
