PortsToronto Operations & Maintenance Facility

New mission-critical facility for one of Canada’s largest major inland ports

Site Selection

As part of the Don Mouth Revitalization and Flood Protection projects, PortsToronto  required replacement of Ports Toronto mission critical facility. Cumulus evaluated site options to relocate existing facilities and chose a co-location with an underutilized maintenance depot. By taking advantage of the existing space, programming could be streamlined in the new facility, increasing staff amenities.

Expanding Operational Responsibilities

While regular preventative maintenance cycles and seasonal overhaul projects remain a fundamental part of the work, the department is increasingly called on to provide rapid response to urgent issues across major marine sites like Billy Bishop Airport, the Port of Toronto, the Outer Harbour Marina, as well as assets throughout the Inner Harbour.

Optimized Workshop Design

Labour divisions have been reorganized based on common activities and materials. Workshops are configured to maximize the flexible space available for lay-down and assembly. Each workshop has ample natural light to ensure a pleasant work environment for staff.  All of this research into the building operations lead to a more efficient building and more efficient workforce.
