CAMH Forensics
Secure healing environments that improve care and recovery

Driven by its vision to transform lives, CAMH’s pursuit of excellence has included bringing new design strategies to the care and rehabilitation of their most vulnerable patients in the forensic program. The campus master plan revisited the traditional model of incarceration and isolation by enabling community integration with expansion of neighboring streets and commercial enterprise at grade level.

The new forensic care building enables rehabilitation and recovery through the creation of healing environments that enable individual options and choices for daily activity including access to therapeutic outdoor spaces year-round.
Work encompassed designs for clinical areas, including inpatient floors, with carefully planned relationships and flow to ensure a therapeutic milieu that prioritizes patient and staff safety. The resulting Master Plan concept and schematic design represent a significant departure from recent Canadian and international facilities.
