Cumulus Presenting at European Healthcare Design in the UK

Lisa Tobin headed to the UK to speak on Emergency Care for Seniors
Cumulus Principal Lisa Tobin will be presenting at the European Healthcare Design 2025 Congress, taking place June 9–11 at the Royal College of Physicians in London.
Along with UHN’s Dr. Tessa Ringer, Lisa will present as part of the “Designing for Emergency Care” session on June 9 at 10:45am.
As our population ages, emergency departments (EDs) are facing growing challenges. Traditionally designed to treat acute trauma, most EDs are not equipped to meet the complex needs of older adults—who are more likely to present with falls, cognitive impairments, and chronic conditions. These environments often lack the safety, comfort, and specialized care required to support seniors effectively.
This session will explore the innovative work behind Canada’s first seniors-focused emergency medical centre, currently under construction at Toronto Western Hospital. The Myrna Daniels Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre (SEM) is pioneering a new precedent setting model that integrates adaptive, human-centred design with geriatric-specific clinical strategies. The goal: to reduce hospital admissions, improve outcomes, and uphold the dignity of older patients.
Presenters include Lisa Tobin, Project Architect for the SEM, and Tessa Ringer, Medical Director and emergency physician of the Myrna Daniels Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre (SEMC) at University Health Network in Toronto, Canada. From its inception, Dr. Ringer has led the SEM’s clinical vision—shaping the world’s first comprehensive program in geriatric emergency medicine.
